If a small green dot is flashing at the top of your screen next to the notch in the upper right corner of the status bar, this means that one or more app(s) on your phone is accessing your phone's camera or may be your phone's camera and microphone both in recording mode. 

But if you are not using any app which requires your phone's camera & still green dot is flashing. That's an alert that any other app is using your phone's camera and microphone without your consent. And that's exactly why this feature has been added in the latest iOS update.

What does an orange dot on your iPhone means?

If a small orange dot is flashing at the top of your screen next to the notch in the upper right corner of the status bar, this means that one or more app(s) on your phone is accessing your phone's microphone in recording mode. 

But if you are not using any app which requires your phone's microphone & still orange dot is flashing. That means it is an alert that any other app is using your phone's microphone & secretly recording your audio without your consent.

How to check which app using Camera and Microphone

To check which app is using your phone's camera and microphone. For this you just have to go to Control Centre in your phone. And to go to Control Centre, you just have to swiping down from the top right corner of the screen. And there at the top, you'll see the name of the app using your camera and(or) microphone.

How to Control or Block access to Camera and Microphone

To control/block the access of camera or microphone to any app you have to follow the below listed step:

  1. Open Setting on your iPhone
  2. Go to Privacy & Security option.
  3. Inside that you will see a list of privacy and security features, Find and open Camera.
  4. Now here you will see the list of apps that have requested access to the Camera.
  5. Next, turn off the permission for the app which is using camera without your consent.
  6. Now follow the same steps for Microphone as well.
